Graece Ε᾿φεςτρίς, vestimentum fuit militare Chlamys, Lacerna. Hesych. Ε᾿φεςτρὶς χλαμὺς. Ε᾿φεςτρίδες τα ἐπιβλήματα, quod reliquis vestibus, inicerentur, Athen. l. 3. καὶ την` Ε᾿φεςτρίδα την` ἄχρηςτον, Lacernam quam nondum indui. Perperam itaque pro quovis vestimenti genere Ephestrida sumi non nulli collegêrunt ex eodem Herodiano, qui eas Senatoribus tribuit, in funere Severi, cum ait: εν μεν λαιῶ μέρει πᾶσα σύγκλητος μελαίναις ἐφεςτρίσι χρώμενοι. Ibi enim Senatus depositis luctûs causâ togis, in pullis lacernis sive penulis erat, nam haec vox de utroque vestimento usurpatur, quod non multum dissimile esset: Itaque non atris vestibus, sed pullis lacernis aut penulis vertendum erat, Octav.
